Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Day 1

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited that it is that time of the month again when we start the new release reveals at Newton’s Nook Designs! Just get ready for a lot of fabulous new stuff! Today the Design Team showcases 2 new critter sets: Paw-some Birthday for the dog lovers and Newton’s Birthday Trio for the cat fans. Aren’t they adorable? All the new products will be available on Friday, 15th March!

There is a gorgeous new stencil this month too:

Here are the cards I created for today:

NEWTON’S BIRTHDAY TRIO

If you follow me you know how much I love stencils. So I took a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock and applied Blueprint Sketch, Mermaid Lagoon and Twisted Citron Distress inks at a diagonal, with a light hand. Then I added the same inks through the Balloons stencil with an ink blending tool and before removing the stencil I sprayed it with Tsukineko Shimmer Spritz for a subtle sparkle.

While the background was drying I stamped and coloured the kitties with Copic markers. I used aqua, green and blue for the accessories to match the background. The kitties I coloured with light browns. Here is a pic of the colours I used:

I used the coordinating die to cut the kitties out and ran the stenciled panel with the scalloped rectangle die from the Frames and flags die set. I also cut a green cardstock piece with this die and cut grass with a Land border die from it.

I assembled the scene on kraft cardstock, popped up the kitties with 3D foam squares and embellished the card with clear jewels from Studio Katia. I also added clear shimmer with my Tonic Aqua shimmer pen to the accessories and coated them with a layer of glossy accents.

PAW-SOME BIRTHDAY

For my second card I created the same background just in a vertical form. I love how the stencil works in both directions.

I used the same markers to colour the dog with the huge pile of presents, and cut him out with the coordinating die. Notice that the die cuts the little holes between toe presents and the dog, i love these tiny details! Adds so much to a card design!

The scene i built the same way like on my previous card, just added die cut white letters (Essential Alphabet die) to the top to spell HELLO. I stamped a sentiment under it in black.

After mounting the die cut image with 3D foam squares, I used my shimmer pen on the presents and added glossy accents here and there to make them shiny and more dimensional.
