NND_July18_5yr

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited to be part of the Newton’s Nook Designs 5 year celebration. Today is the first day of the July Release sneak peeks, all products will be available for purchase on Friday, the 20th July 2018.

Narly Mermaids

I started with applying texture paste through the Seashells stencil on white cardstock.

While it was drying I cut a piece of an alcohol inked background I made earlier and white heat embossed the sentiment from the Narly mermaids set on a black cardstock strip.

I stamped, coloured with Copics and die cut the mermaid and the narwhal and cut her hands around with scissors so i could tuck there the narwhal to look like a hug.

I adhered them flat to the card and added the finishing touches I always use: a bit of sparkle with a Tonic Aqua Shimmer pen, glossy accents and black glaze pen on the eyes.

Purr-maid Newton

I applied Distress Oxide inks using a piece of acetate on some Ranger Glossy cardstock. I added several layers and made sure to dry each one with a heat tool before adding the next. When i was happy how it looked i dried it completely and added Ranger Micro glaze with a foam applicator. It made the background shiny and vibrant. I die cut a stitched scalloped rectangle from it for my ocean scene.

I stamped, coloured and die cut the cute kitty mermaids and popped them up with foam tape on the background. I added some Stickles to the tails, glossy accent to the noses and the bra.

I white heat embossed a sentiment on a black flag, cut the edge with the scalloped rectangle die to match the background and cut a narrower flag from a peacock cardstock scrap to mat under the black one. I used 3D foam tape to adhere it and embellished it with a seahorse.

My card was finished when i had the idea of turning the mermaids into underwater flamenco dancers and added shell sequins in their paws as castagnetta. I love how it turned out.

Manatee-rific

Manateerific_zsm_IG

For my card i created a distress inked background on Bristol Smooth cardstock and die cut a frame using 2 dies from the Frames and flags die set. On the inner piece i applied some Nuvo Glimmer paste through the Bubbly stencil.

While it was drying i stamped the cute manatees and coloured them with Copics. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out.

I stamped the sentiments on some black flags with Versamark ink and white heat embossed them. For more interest i die cut the Bayou Backdrop die (Lawn Fawn) from vellum and adhered it to the frame.

While assembling the card i added the manatees flat but popped up the sentiments and frame with 3D foam tape.

Tropical Fish Stencil

I started with a die cut scalloped rectangle from the Frames and flags die and masked off the edges. I applied distress inks lightly all over and then placed the Fish stencil on it and went back with the same inks. Before removing the stencil i spritzed it with Tsukineko Shimmer Spritz for a subtle sparkle.

I die cut the sentiment “sea you soon” from a funny, wave patterned craft foam – i thought it matched the theme so well. I used the Essential alphabet set and adhered them to the background with liquid glue.

I used fog cardstock as a card base and popped up my focal panel using 3D foam tape.

  5. Oh wow !! That’s such a wonderful bundle of cards !!! I’m a huge fan of all your backgrounds, no exception ! The second card made me so laugh because even before reading your post, when I saw these purr-maids holding the seashells, I immediately thought of flamenco dancers !! So well done !! 👏 And finally, what is this fun foam you used to die cut the sentiment for your last card !?! Because it’s sooooo cool and with the shadow on it, it even looks like water reflection !! 👌
